Just in time for the start of the New Year 2021, OMEGA has launched new models in January, the new Moonwatch Professional Co-Axial Master Chronometer in Sedna Gold, Hesalite, sapphire, and Canopus Gold (left to right). It's safe to say that most Speedmaster fans will be interested in the new Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Master Chronometer steel Sapphire 3861 replica (Ref. 310.30.42.50.01.002), which has been completely upgraded, while the design continues the distinctive style of the Speedmaster and restores the classic details of the earlier prototype models.

The Dial

The black "stepped" dial of new Omega Speedmaster Sapphire 3861 replica features three subdials with arched minute and chronograph seconds hands, as well as a minute circle adjusted for the new movement's frequency. Other than the conspicuous inclusion of an applied white metal Omega logo and the new hash marks that correspond to the frequency of the new 3861, the dial remains largely unchanged. The applied logo is a nice touch and, especially in photos, will set the sapphire apart from its Pro siblings, be they 1861 or 3861-based. 

The Case

Just as with the new Hesalite 3861, the replica sapphire versions are also a bit thinner than the previous generation. That's right, despite packing a new chronometer movement, the sapphire Speedy Pro's thickness has dropped from 13.7mm (with the caliber 1861) to 13.18mm (with the new 3861). This is not a small change, and the effects should be very noticeable on wrist. 

The new 3861-powered Speedmaster watch replicas are thinner than the outgoing 1861 models. 

Just as we saw with the Hesalite 3861, the sapphire version has an updated bezel with a slightly lighter font and a dot over 90. 

The Caseback

Being a so-called sapphire sandwich, the 310.30.42.50.01.002 replica has a sapphire crystal up front and a sapphire display caseback in the rear. It's worth noting that the sapphire crystal (and its matching display caseback) are also found on the other two new versions of the 3861 Speedy, the Sedna Gold ref. 310.60.42.50.01.001 replica and the Canopus Gold (with a matching white-silver tone dial) ref. 310.60.42.50.02.001 replica. 

The highlight of the new Omega Moonwatch replica is the movement inside, which has been upgraded from the 1861 caliber to the 3861 chronometer movement. While the dimensions of the old movement are identical, the new hand-wound movement offers a significant increase in power reserve, chronograph performance and anti-magnetic properties, with an anti-magnetic resistance of 15,000 Gauss and a power reserve of 50 hours.

The Bracelet

The sapphire 3861 includes a bracelet very similar to the Hesalite, with a five-link screwed construction that tapers (from 20mm to 15mm) to the new clasp design. Unlike the new Hesalite, the new steel sapphire models retain the paired polished inner links that run down the center of the bracelet, while the bracelet clasp logo has been redesigned with an etching replaced with a three-dimensional embossed logo.
